Thoughts on Hebrew

One friend, Howard (one of three men who qualify as the “brothers I never had”), knows some Hebrew. When I finished at college, he signed his photo with the Hebrew phrase “Shalom” (see above; note that in normal everyday Hebrew vowel points aren’t used).

He told me years later I should brush up on Hebrew since Hebrew will be the official language of heaven.

So far, besides English I also speak some Russian, Spanish and a little Mandarin Chinese. I’ve dabbled into Hebrew. Not an easy language to learn. It’s technically written without vowels, making pronunciation tricky for Gentile beginners like me. Then there’s the grammar. Even counting from 1 to 10 can be a challenge since there’s one way for the masculine form and another for the feminine form.

Then there are those fun questions: do I spell using an Aleph or Ayin? Chet or Khof? Kaf or Qof? Tet or Tav? Shamekh or Shin?

Thoughts on Rosie O'Donnell

December 3, 2008 Leave a comment

In my political leanings, I am a staunch conservative who agrees with Rosie O’Donnell’s political beliefs as often as Pluto completes an orbit around the sun (about 242 years, by the way), but still, I have no pleasure in her one-episode variety show getting cancelled.

Many have reverted to personal attacks against O’Donnell, slamming her weight, looks and wonky views. I used to be disgusted and angered by her, but now, I feel pity and sadness. I see her as someone who has issues that she’s trying very hard to sort out. In all honesty, I pray for her that she would reach out to God and receive a new birth through salvation in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Let’s pray for her. Do it anytime you feel like making a nasty joke about her.
